MEET OUR FOUNDER

Seattle native, Nyema Clark is founder and Director of Nurturing Roots Farm located on Beacon Hill, a program committed to addressing food justice issues in the community. She currently educated the community on topics ranging from germination to systemic food oppression through panels and lectures, sharing her journey as a black female entrepreneur. Nyema Clark is a passionate and dedicated farmer who is committed to cultivating healthy, sustainable, and inclusive food systems.

Nurturing Roots Farm was born out of Clark's desire to create a space where people from diverse backgrounds could come together to learn about and engage with the food system. She recognized that many people, especially those in underserved communities, lack access to fresh, healthy, and culturally relevant food. At Nurturing Roots Farm, Clark and her team grow a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers using sustainable and regenerative farming practices. They also offer educational programs and workshops on topics such as gardening, cooking, and food preservation. In addition, the farm provides fresh produce to local schools, food banks, and community organizations, and hosts community events and gatherings.

As a black small business owner and founder of Avenue South, she produces handmade natural culinary and body products. Nyema is committed to enriching underserved communities, her strength and overall goal is founded in youth empowerment and community economic sustainability.
